Remember the 1966 movie "The Ugly Dachshund" starring Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette? It's about an orphaned Great Dane pup who is wetnursed by a champion standard smooth Dachshund. Brutus, the Great Dane, of course grows up thinking he is a Dachshund! Well, I met the sweetest, gentlest (smallest!) Great Dane named Bella last night at an Open House With Style event. She would be an awesome addition to any home, but I have a feeling she would just love being with Dachshunds. She was there with Mark Tasker, Camp Director for Camp Bow Wow in Castle Rock. Mark & Camp Bow Wow Castle Rock help foster Rescue dogs for Big Dogs Huge Paws, Inc. Obviously, this group is geared toward finding good homes for large breeds exclusively.
This event was held at an empty commercial space. There was a DJ with loudish music, lots of people, children, food, you name it. Bella was initially just a little alert; her docked tail was tucked, but her ears were full and forward. She voluntarily went up to strange people to gently greet them. What a gentle girl! After the initial excitement wore off, she hung out on a little mat on the floor next to Camp Bow Wow's booth and enjoyed some cookies and scratches. She stole my heart and nothing would have been nicer than to bring her home with me. But, since I am a little, uh, "full up" here, listing her here is the next best thing. Please, consider this girl if you are looking for a dog who could move right in like she had lived with you forever. The easiest dogs I've ever had were those that came to me as adults. Daphne, who was with Mark and who also works at Camp Bow Wow, said that Bella just loves the little dogs at CBW! From the Big Dogs Huge Paws website:
Please, if you think you might want to meet Bella, please contact Mark Tasker at Camp Bow Wow. His email is castlerock [at] campbowwowusa.com. The phone is 303.814.8108.
