Ruger has two litters planned here in 2008. Keep
reading for more
information on both breedings
here and outside
breedings to our stud dogs.
We breed dogs first (for ourselves) for conformation and
performance
(primarily hunting ability) and for companionship.
A Ruger Dachshund is not for everyone. These dogs are hunters and
will not hesitate to kill any critter in your backyard; mice, birds ,
squirrels and bigger are all fair game. My pack has killed
raccoons and tried to kill fox (the fox were smart enough to
leave).
If this bothers you, perhaps no Dachshund is right for you; after all,
the breed was created to go to ground to keep badgers cornered
until a hunter could dispatch the
badgers. They are tough little dogs! For
some great pix of some authentic working dogs, click here.
The bitches, especially smooths, tend to have stronger
personailities. All Ruger
Dachshunds need homes with well-definied boundaries,
consistent rules and a firm but benevolent hand. They need varied
and regular socialization, as they can be initially reserved with
strangers if you do not keep up with the socialization started here
when they are babies. Like most dogs, they need daily mental
stimulation, or they will invent
their own 'fun'. These dogs are
not for the faint-hearted (or queasy)! That said, you will be
hard pressed to find such a versatile small breed that
is so tough yet so loving.
There are occasionally outside breedings planned for Gracchus and
Maximus.
You can find contact info below or on the Puppies
page for the owners of these outside bitches & litters.
Sometimes, the owners do not wish to have their information listed; you
will need to contact me for referrals to those folks.
There will be pet pups in each of these litters. It is rare to
have a litter of pups that are all of show potential.
Please keep in mind that the period from conception to puppies who are
ready to go to new families is generally 5 months. We prefer to
keep puppies until 12 weeks of age, but we will let them
go earlier to experienced Dachshund homes only. We reserve the
right to determine "experienced". We do not sell
dogs as 'breeding stock'. If you do not show or we do not know
you, please don't ask to buy a
puppy without a
neutering requirement and/or limited registration. It's a waste
of time for all of us. We do not breed puppies so that
unscrupulous breeders can breed them to
death while using our hard work as a marketing gimmick. Please
don't even try...we know every trick in the book.
If you are interested in using a Ruger male at stud, click here for requirements to
breed to any Ruger males.
Reilly was not collected before his death, but his requirements stand
for the other boys until I can bear to update that page.
If you take a look at the list of breedings planned below, you will
find the contact information for the breeders of
these outside litters below the pictures of their
girls. They are similarly picky about where their puppies
go.
As always, we are happy to refer to reputable
Dachshund show breeders in the
region
who may
have
pet puppies now.
If you would like a referral, please email us with the size (miniature
or standard) and coat (wire, smooth or long) in which you are
interested.
Due
May 3rd
"Cosmo" CH Add-Sim's Cosmopolitan MS
(CH Poohdachs Own DOS MS x CH Add-Sim's Sweet
Caroline MS)
Cosmo is a very pretty, typey smooth who has produced some fabulous
puppies
when he's been bred to Sunrise bitches. He also is a little older
and is very healthy, as are all of his close relatives. Pretty,
older and proven healthy...studdogs like that
are as good as gold and we are very fortunate to have been able to
breed to this fabulous Puerto Rican boy.
"Tania" Sunrise Lightly Tanned MS, SE, ROMX
(conformation & field pointed)
(CH
Grandgables Blond Beach Boy ROMX x
Grandgables Lightly Toasted)
Tania is very typey with a beautiful head and front. She has
very nice length with the ribbing and keel to match. She has
tremendous bone for such a small bitch. She is a very pretty
mover! Tania produces voicing puppies.
We were considering retiring Tania after her 2007 litter.
However, we are thinking about just one more litter if we could find
the perfect boy...
she has produced such fabulous kids for us and she is such a wonderful,
loving dam, it's hard to imagine
spaying her at such a young age.
This litter, should it happen, will be whelped here at Ruger and will
be Tania's
final litter.
We did find the perfect boy and, if the breeding takes, we are
expecting red and black and tan smooth puppies about the first of May.
Stay tuned!
Cosmo x Tania
Planned Spring/Early Summer
2008
at Ruger Dachshunds
So far, Maximus has produced 5 CH
pups,
including one who finished
undefeated at 8 months of age and two that finished in three weekends
with 4 majors each, pups who (with the oldest at 18
months of age) are field pointed (including a 1st) and multiple major
pointed in
the breed ring. He's also got pups with Earthdog legs and titles,
a pup with a Tracking Dog title, a pup who is a certified Therapy Dog
(at 13 months!!) and a pup with multiple Best Puppy in
Show awards.
He produces puppies with incredible bone and substance, pretty heads,
toplines and fronts and gorgeous movement, not to mention wonderful
personalities and fabulous hunters with lots of drive.
"Tate" Doxikota Payton v Ruger MW
(major & field pointed)
(CH EZ Goins River At Sagerun MW x CH Doxikota
Mali-Boo Barbie MS)
Payton has three majors and only needs
3
single points to finish her bench Championship and a first to finish
her Field Championship. Payton is
fabulous, *fabulous* with children; we adore her temperament. She
also has a beautiful, very nice double wire coat and a very pretty,
girly head and front profile. We hope to bring some of Maximus'
lovely movement to Tate's babies!
Tate is fairly unpredictable in
her seasons, but we do not expect her to come in season until sometime
after March at the earliest.
Puppies will be wire and/or smooth
and red and/or possibly black and tan .
These puppies should be fabulous Dual prospects - we do have a small
waiting list based on coat.
This litter will be whelped here at Ruger.
