Licking the Beaters...

Isn't licking the beaters one of the great pleasures in life?

This modified Dachshund "flower" around the beaters is Elliot, Finn, Ryan, Gracchus & Pearl.  What makes this picture hilarious for me is Evie in the background.  I wish I knew what she was thinking here, because she is normally NOT one to hang back when something yummy is going on.

I was laughing hard enough at Evie's quizzical expression that I had a hard time keeping the camera still.

By the way, they were licking icing beaters from PW's "That's The Best Frosting I've Ever Had" icing.  That went on PW's "The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever."  I've made lots of icing over the years.  I've made lots of chocolate cake.  And those two recipe titles are exactly correct.  Yummm.  Seriously.  The Pioneer Woman is really jacking up my weight loss.  Thanks a LOT, MaryAnne!  And Ree.  Sheesh.

Yesterday was a good day to bake.  Ten inches of snow.  It was 70 degrees the day before.  Mother Nature can quit with the teasing any time now.

Wiener-Vision!
Friday, 19 March 2010 14:48

This is for y'all to watch when you have lots of time on your hands.  Or when you are thinking about having 9 Dachshunds in your house.  Which is probably never on both counts, but hey, you never know!

Apologies to Cindi Todd for using the word "wiener".  "Dachshund-Vision" just doesn't have the same ring to it, dangit.

Just click on the little play button in the lower left of the video screen if you want to watch the live stream here. Click the big play button in the middle if you want to randomly stay or go to the UStream site and chat or whatnot.  I don't know what's up with that big button.

*If you don't have a fancy internet connection and this won't load or is loading slowly, feel free to click here and that should work much better for you. If you are on dial-up, I am so sorry; bless your lil' heart.

So much fun with Photoshop..thanks to PW!
Thursday, 18 March 2010 19:18

Okay, I pretty much got nothing done today.  Wait.  I did go to pilates class.  I also traded (at 6:30 am, bleh).  Oh, and I did pick up poo and toys so they can be washed.  I also made homemade pizza for dinner.  Getting the poo and toys up was important.  It was 66 here today and by tomorrow this time, we are supposed to have 10 inches of snow.  I love this place!  Anyway, I am getting off track.  I guess I accomplished more than I thought; but I still didn't do the big things I wanted to.  Why?  Because of Photoshop.  And Pioneer Woman.  And my dogs whom I am in love with.

I always thought this picture of Maxi-B was a neat picture.  My friend Moira took it.  A little bokeh, cool composition...it's a neat picture! Moira has an awesome camera; way better (read faster and higher res) than my crappy point and shoot.

But I have learned that almost every picture can be improved!  Even by people like me who don't have a clue what they are doing.  How, you ask?  Well, thanks to Pioneer Woman's tutorials on Photoshop and her FREE PS ACTIONS!  So flippin' cool!

Here's Moira's Maximus picture after a little crop and some PW Actions:

Cool, eh?  Go check out PW's Photography blog.  I learned more there about PS in 10 minutes than I had learned in the previous 6 years.  Thanks, Ree!

Memory Lane...
Thursday, 18 March 2010 08:03

I have a zillion things to do today that don't involve the computer, dogs or Photoshop CS4.  However, I cannot help myself! This is one of my all-time favorite puppy pictures:

I could just eat these puppies with a SPOON! Yum!

Here is another:

Squirrel ("Lulu" at the time) chewin' on her brother, Gracchus

So much has happened since this picture.  I can still close my eyes and smell them; see them at that age.

They are, left to right, DC Maximus, FC Marcus, DC Gracchus JE and FC Squirrel.  Marcus is no longer with us.  It never ceases to amaze me the absolute emotional highs and lows I feel with these critters.  They are such an intrinsical part of my life; I cannot and do not want to imagine my life without them.
