Wow, but we had fun this weekend! Family dogs had a clean sweep at the two Evergreen Kennel Club shows in Greeley, CO and we had some good, dirty fun at earthdog practice on Sunday after the breed showing. Little Ryan stayed behind at the show with our lovely & talented handler, Monica Lamontagne, to show in the Hound Group. I love to handle my own dogs, but occasionally I don't get to do everything I want to, showing-wise, and that's where Monica comes in.
We stayed in Greeley with our good friends, the Marvins, and had lots of fun playing in the backyard with Skye before the Andy Marvin's "going away" party. Andy is being transferred to Australia by his company and left this morning. Daphne and the girls and the dogs won't follow until January. We will miss them all so much. On Sunday, our judge was Dr. Richard Meen from Toronto, Canada. He was a pleasant gentleman who certainly ran us through our paces, carefully considered each dog (multiple times for the specials!) and ultimately awarded Ryan with her second Best of Variety as a "special", Evie with Winners Bitch/Best of Winners for her second four point major, and CH Strauss with Best Opposite Sex. Strauss-Mouse was bred by our dear friend Pam Bethke and is shown and trained by his young owner/handler, Kassey Hill. Strauss' sire, CH Boot, and Ryan's dam, CH Mali, are littermates and their grandsire is Am/Can CH Grandgables Blond Beach Boy MS, ROMX. Beachy is also Tania's sire so he is grandsire or great-grandsire to everyone here at Ruger. So then, with Ryan's BOV win, we had a dilemma...did we go ahead with earthdog practice at Rist Canyon or stay for groups? Pam had the answer...hire a handler and thankfully, Monica was without a hound in the group. Monica said Ryan did very well for a youngster left with a stranger and that she stood on the table like a rock and showed beautifully. So we went and played earthdog in the Canyon with Kassey & Strauss and our other friends, Sarah & Kelso (the earthdog wannabe border collie). The weather was absolutely beautiful and it was really the perfect end to a pretty perfect weekend.

On Saturday, under Breeder-Judge Adrian Woodfork, CH Ryan went Best of Variety over 5 other specials. Evie JE went Winners Bitch/Best of Winners for a four point major. These are her first points and it was only the second time she's ever been in the ring! CH Tucker, a DC Maximus son bred by
